- First-time instructions – Mac users:
You need the FREE StuffIt Expander to expand the files. If you do not have it, you can download it from this link: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/
1. Double-Click the "SchoolhouseFontsZBOSX.sitx" or "SchoolhouseFontsDNOSX.sitx" file on your desktop. This will open the StuffIt Expander window, and display the Schoolhouse folder inside. Grab this folder and drag it to your desktop to completely unstuff the file.
2. Double-click on the "SchoolhouseFontsZBOSX" or "SchoolhouseFontsDNOSX" folder on your desktop. Inside you will find the EZ Install application. Double-click the EZ Install icon and follow the prompts to completion.
3. Open your hard drive, then go to Applications, then to vLetter, then to Help Files. Open, print, and read the "Schoolhouse Fonts Read Me" in the Help Files folder. This contains instructions for using Schoolhouse Fonts.
Installing an upgraded version of Schoolhouse Fonts:
- First, delete the original fonts from the Windows Fonts folder (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts) or the System Folder's Fonts folder (Mac). Then, follow the first-time installation procedures to completion.
Using the Fonts
Non-connected cursive and printed style fonts:
- Use the non-connected cursive and printed style Schoolhouse Fonts as you would any font on your computer. You can access them directly from the Font menu of your applications.
- The steps for using all but the connected-cursive Schoolhouse Fonts are:
1. Select a Schoolhouse font in your application's font menu. All Schoolhouse font names begin with "SigA..." (Zaner-Bloser* style) or "SigB..." (D'Nealian* style).
2. Select a font size. You will probably use the Schoolhouse fonts at a larger point size than ordinary fonts. You can experiment with different sizes in each style you wish to use.
3. Type your text. Add lined-spaces in fonts with guidelines by typing the "grave accent" key (to the left of the "1" key on your keyboard). Hold down the accent key to get a whole line of lined-spaces.
Connected cursive fonts:
- The connected cursive fonts (SigAConnect, SigAConnectLn, SigBConnect, SigBConnectLn) require the use of the SigSoft Handwriter, a simple conversion utility that is automatically installed with the Schoolhouse Fonts.
They should not be accessed from the Font menu of applications like other fonts.
- The steps for converting text into connected cursive fonts in Windows are:
In Microsoft Word:
1. Click the Settings button on the toolbar.
2. Pick a connected font from the Settings window and click OK. To use a different font, go back to the Settings button and select another font.
**** Then do the following steps every time you need handwriting:
3. Type in plain text first, like Times New Roman.
4. Highlight all the text.
5. Click the Handwriting button to convert the plain text to the connected cursive font.
- The steps for converting text into connected cursive fonts in Mac OSX are:
In TextEdit, AppleWorks, Pages, or Microsoft Word:
1. Type some plain text using a font such as Arial. (Do spell checking at this point.)
2. Highlight the text you want in your handwriting.
3. Start the vLetter Handwriter from the alias on your desktop.
4. In the vLetter Handwriter, choose a connected font, set the Handwriting Size, and choose the application containing your text as the Source.
5. Click the Convert to Handwriting button.
6. The text you typed is converted to the connected cursive font. Easy!

Troubleshooting
If the fonts don't show in your application's font menu:
1. Reboot.
2. (Windows only) Double-click on any of the Schoolhouse Fonts (SigAPrint, SigBCursive, etc.) in the Windows Fonts folder (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Fonts). If the font displays "The quick brown fox..." in several point sizes, click "Done" and return to your application. The fonts should now be visible in the application's Font menu.
The letters in the connected cursive fonts are disconnected.
- More than likely, you tried to convert text into your handwriting by just choosing your font from the Font menu instead of using the Sigsoft Handwriter to convert the regular text into handwriting. Read the Read Me for more information on using the SigSoft Handwriter.
